THE FIVE PILLARS OF KITSCH FEMME BODIES
  1. Kitsch represents items of familiarity, pieces of the past, and often mass replications of references from high society reproduced and marketed to be low-brow, cheap. Experiencing girlhood and womanhood is inherently kitsch. As we are objectified and commodified in our youth. In order to disrupt the male gaze, we must embrace our poor taste, as it is not defined by age.
  2. Aging in a world decentralized by the male gaze is a privilege and inherently a queer act of protest. To exist in a matriarchal sisterhood overlooking the men’s expectations is the most radical way to live within society's standards.
  3. To be queer is to refuse society's expectations of time. Queerness is only accepted when it is commodified as a tool for marketing. Pride was an act of self-defense against police brutality. We are not a fashion trend.
  4. Dancing is healing, empowering, erotic, and authentic. We must dance to heal and continue to resist against hegemonic expectations. We must take care of spaces centered around queer joy and sapphic joy by making them accessible for all ages.
  5. Buying new is OUT. Connecting with your community, making things, upcycling, craft, and working with what you have will always be IN.
